PUBLICATION: A COLLECTION OF WRITING AND REFLECTIONS ON CONTEMPORARY FOLK CULTURE IMAGES
The publication is the result of No Fixed Abodes’ first call for submissions made in June 2006. The call asked for participation in a debate surrounding concepts of contemporary folk activity and its many facets. No particular medium was specified. As a result, many submissions came in the form of writing.
This collection is being distributed by an organised peddler system on the streets of Sheffield and also the following locations; Sheffield: Site Gallery, Syd and Mallory’s Boutique, BLOC Shop Online, Leeds: The Art Market, 42 New Briggate, London: I-Cabin, the ICA bookshop, Nelly Duff Gallery. We believe that these institutions in some way reflect those who contributed.
As perhaps the most immediate example of a social company, The Big Issue Group, through the visibility of its vendors, has inspired the use of peddlers as the most personal method of distributing such content. Furthermore, its availability in Galleries and independent sectors reflects those who have contributed, offering a dynamic to who our potential readership could be.
